Worldview Seminar by Michael Wittmer

Christian Worldview Seminar

offered on Saturday February 9, 2008
4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Presenter: Michael Wittmer, B.A., M.Div., Th.M., Ph.D. Associate Professor of Systematic and Historical Theology at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary and author of Heaven Is a Place on Earth (Zondervan, 2004).

Summary: Most Christians know they should read their Bibles, pray, and witness to others, but they aren’t clear how these spiritual duties relate to the rest of life. They know that Jesus Christ is Lord of all, but they aren’t sure how to integrate his authority into their daily routine. Worse, many suspect that their everyday life doesn’t really matter, for, as they are often told, this life is merely a test, this world is not their home, and only spiritual things last forever.

Our seminar challenges these pious but pagan sentiments with a celebration of the Christian worldview. Following the contour of the biblical story of creation, fall, and redemption, we discover what it means to be human and living in God’s world, how we destroyed our humanity and the rest of creation through disobedience, and how God is even now striking back against sin so that we—and the earth—might flourish as he intended. The gospel is larger, and far more compelling, than we ever imagined.

1. Creation: Where are we? Who are we? Why are we here?
2. Fall: What is wrong with me and with my world?
3. Redemption: What is God’s plan for our world?
