Activity Details
Weekly Activities
These activities help our teens with the patterns of reading, understanding, discussing, and applying God’s Word daily—earning points is possible for every week of a small group. Note: A student who attends a small group and successfully completes all of the weekly study activities each week will reach Tier 3, which awards $200.
Attend small group – 5 points
Why: Small group is a great place to learn more about our great God and to fellowship with other families of believers.
How: Students will receive their points for attendance.
Weekly verse
Each week’s memory and study verse is outlined on the Fall 2021 Lili Ramos Scholarship Activities PDF and will be posted in the blog weekly. We will continue to use Fighter Verses for those weekly activities.
Memorization – 10 points
Why: Memorizing scripture is a great discipline. “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
How: The weekly fighter verse will be on the Lili Ramos Scholarship Activities, on the weekly blog, and on the Fighter Verses site/app. Students will recite the verse for their parents.
Summary and application writing (2 paragraphs) – 10 points
Why: We should encourage our students to understand scripture.
How: Two paragraphs typed with four sentences in a paragraph. One paragraph should summarize the student’s understanding of the verse(s) while the second paragraph should discuss how the student has or will apply what they have learned. Parents should review the content and help their student with understanding and application—correcting errors in doctrine and theology. This writing can be copied and pasted into the form or provide a shared link to a Google Doc.
Fathers (or heads of household) will also submit a paragraph on what was discussed, corrected as part of the weekly writing—only one is necessary regardless of the number of students submitting writings.
Daily devotionals (Gospel Project) – 10 points
Why: The daily study of God’s Word is an important discipline. The Gospel Project has five days of studies for each week. Thoughtfully reading and completing daily devotionals will help students when discussing with peers and leaders during small group. Students are encouraged to complete these studies individually but families are encouraged to use them as a part of their own family devotionals and discussions.
How: Students will show their completed devotional to their parent.
Sermon notes – 10 points
Why: Notes ensure we pay attention and helps us to retain the important messages given during the Sunday morning sermon.
How: Parents verify that sermon notes were taken. Following up with a family discussion will help everyone apply what was taught.
Volunteering at church – 5 points
Why: Ushering and hospitality are great ways to serve our brothers and sisters. Servant leadership is what we want to encourage in our teens!
How: Sign up for ushering and serving a Sunday morning on the hospitality team as a family.
Outreach and Service
These activities are designed to challenge teens in sharing the gospel through both service and relationships. Note: These activities have a limit per scholarship year.
Service Projects – 20 points (limit 10 projects for 200 points)
Why: Whether it’s raking a yard or cleaning gutters teens can impact their community with their service.
How: A parent will need to write down what the student did and sign off on this. This can be turned in at check in.
Limit: No more than 200 points can be earned from service projects.
Organize a service event – 100 points (limit 1)
Why: Teens should learn to lead and organize events. If a teen independently plans and organizes a service event or fundraiser that is created for the other students to participate in, they will be awarded for their leadership.
How: A parent must document what was done and sign off. This can be turned in at check in.
Limit: No more than 100 points can be earned from organizing a service event.
Help with a fundraiser – 50 points (limited by scholarship fundraisers)
Why: The money raised from these fundraisers helps send students to camp—let’s involve them as much as possible.
How: Parents will communicate their student’s participation in a Lili Ramos Scholarship fundraiser.
Limit: No limit—these activities are already limited in number.
In-depth Study
These activities encourage students in their spiritual growth—part of walking with God is knowing who God is. These opportunities challenge students in their Bible study. Note: These activities have a limit per scholarship year.
Three-paragraph summary of a book of the Bible (middle school only) – 50 points (limit 2)
Why: To better understand a book of the Bible.
How: Three paragraphs (4 sentences in a paragraph) typed. Who wrote this book? Why did they write it? What does it say? Students may write about a book we are covering this year in the Gospel Project. This writing can be copied and pasted into the form or provide a shared link to a Google Doc.
Limit: No more than 100 points can be earned.
Video re-enacting a Bible story or book - 100 points (limit 1)
Why: Writing papers isn’t for everyone and creativity is a good thing. Surely this video would result in a better understanding of their source text.
How: The video must be at least 3 minutes long and show that the student put effort into the video. Students are encouraged to work together and can work in groups of up to four. Students may cover a book or story we are covering this year in the Gospel Project. Students must present their video idea to Phil Goodwin prior to filming it and can work with him on a way to deliver it.
Limit: No more than 100 points can be earned.
Write a two-page paper on a doctrine or book (high school only) – 100 points (limit 1)
Why: To grow in an understanding of God’s Word.
How: Two pages single-spaced. Clear the doctrine or book with Phil Goodwin first.
Limit: No more than 100 points can be earned.
Connect Events
All households participating in the scholarship will host a Connect Event. These activities give students an opportunity to fellowship and build relationships with one another in activities outside of small groups, co-op, and Sunday worship service. A connect event does not need to take place before Lake Ann Camp but must be scheduled as an upcoming event prior to the end of the Spring Session.
Interviewing with the Elders
Students who complete all 4 tiers are given the option to interview with the church elders for a full ride scholarship. Only two full rides will are available.
